Black History Month takes place during the month most associated with love. This personal project set out to hold those truths side by side, using February as a moment to celebrate Black love in all its forms. The concept was simple: a visual love letter made from iconic Black kiss scenes in cinema.
Part archival, part editorial, the piece stitched together moments of tenderness, passion, and intimacy that have too often been overlooked or underrepresented. It was a reminder that Black history is made not only through struggle, but through softness, connection, and joy.
It started with a kiss
Something Good – Negro Kiss (1898) was the first filmed depiction of Black love ever captured on screen. Just one minute long, but monumental. This single, tender moment became the inspiration for the visual love letter of a compilation of iconic Black kiss scenes in cinema.
